About the Role

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, in Hershey, PA, invites applications for a non-tenure line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities

  • Establish an independent, externally funded research program focused on translational research in neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Contribute to collaborative research efforts within the Department of Neurosurgery.
  • Mentor trainees and junior researchers.
  • Pursue extramural funding, including submission of NIH grant proposals within six months of appointment.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Biochemistry or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five years of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Specialized expertise in iron homeostasis and molecular biology.
  • Research experience relevant to translational studies of neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Demonstrated experience studying iron transport using both whole-animal and cell culture models of the blood-brain barrier.
  • Expertise in the isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity, including at least three first-author publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentorship, teamwork, and scientific collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with neurosurgical research techniques and procedures.
  • Evidence of innovation through intellectual property development, such as patent applications.
  • Experience preparing and submitting grant applications to national funding agencies and/or private foundations.
