About the Role
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, in Hershey, PA, invites applications for a non-tenure line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Responsibilities
- Establish an independent, externally funded research program focused on translational research in neurodegenerative disorders.
- Contribute to collaborative research efforts within the Department of Neurosurgery.
- Mentor trainees and junior researchers.
- Pursue extramural funding, including submission of NIH grant proposals within six months of appointment.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Biochemistry or a closely related field.
- Minimum of five years of postdoctoral research experience.
- Specialized expertise in iron homeostasis and molecular biology.
- Research experience relevant to translational studies of neurodegenerative disorders.
- Demonstrated experience studying iron transport using both whole-animal and cell culture models of the blood-brain barrier.
- Expertise in the isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Evidence of scholarly productivity, including at least three first-author publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
- Demonstrated experience in mentorship, teamwork, and scientific collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with neurosurgical research techniques and procedures.
- Evidence of innovation through intellectual property development, such as patent applications.
- Experience preparing and submitting grant applications to national funding agencies and/or private foundations.
