Neuroscience Patient Care Tech

About the Role

The Patient Care Technician serves as a supportive member of the patient care team, assisting in routine and non-complex aspects of patient care. The PCT assists RNs, LPNs, and Physicians in the patient care process and may have additional duties assigned within the scope of the role.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
• Take and record vital signs
• Support nursing staff and physicians in patient care tasks
• Perform duties within the scope of a Patient Care Technician role

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent required
• Graduate from a certified Nursing Assistant Program or a Health Occupations Program (HOSA) preferred
• Completion of first clinical rotation as a Nurse Student (e.g., completion of ‘Nursing Fundamentals’ course, including assistance with ADLs and vital signs) or 1 year of experience in a patient care role in an acute care, nursing home, or home care setting preferred
• BLS certification required

Skills

• Knowledge of body mechanics and basic safety principles of physical care and comfort
• Medical terminology training preferred
• Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns
• Effective oral and written communication skills

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Sitting for 20% of the workday; mobility required for 80% of the workday
• Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
• Frequent reaching, use of hands, and repetitive actions
• Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds; pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds
• Continuous need for clear speaking, hearing sensitivity in conversations (phone or in-person), and visual acuity at close and distant ranges
• Inside work protected from weather but not necessarily from temperature changes
• Minimal noise levels; frequent computer work
• Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock, infectious disease, hazardous chemicals, and radiation
