Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in neurodiagnostics (EEG/EMG), and two applicable registrations, or
• Associates degree and four years experience in neurodiagnostics (EEG/EMG) and two applicable registrations.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration required

• BLS certification,
• Must possess two of the following registrations:
  • EEG or EP by the American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET),
  • NCS by the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET),
  • Equivalent registration.

Responsibilities

• Develops a rapport with patients and explains testing procedures to the patient;
• Prepares patient for testing.
• Obtains and records patient medical history.
• Completes required paperwork for testing and initiates changes as required.
• Performs standard and complex neurodiagnostic procedures in the laboratory, ICU, and CCU.
• Maintains proper standards for application of EEG electrotrodes.
• Performs all phases of EEG testing, evoked potentials, nerve conduction studies, intra-operative monitoring, and brainstem monitoring to include hook-up, reading, and scoring of the patient.
• Maintains instrumentation and equipment in proper working order, checking calibrations and making minor maintenance adjustments and repairs deemed appropriate.
• Participates in training junior personnel.
• Ensures adherence to laboratory policies and procedures regarding OSHA and JCAHO guidelines and hospital regulations; promotes continuous improvement in safety, environmental, and/or infection control practices and procedures.
