Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in neurodiagnostics (EEG/EMG), and two applicable registrations, or
- Associates degree and four years experience in neurodiagnostics (EEG/EMG) and two applicable registrations.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration required
- BLS certification,
- Must possess two of the following registrations:
- EEG or EP by the American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET),
- NCS by the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET),
- Equivalent registration.
Responsibilities
- Develops a rapport with patients and explains testing procedures to the patient;
- Prepares patient for testing.
- Obtains and records patient medical history.
- Completes required paperwork for testing and initiates changes as required.
- Performs standard and complex neurodiagnostic procedures in the laboratory, ICU, and CCU.
- Maintains proper standards for application of EEG electrotrodes.
- Performs all phases of EEG testing, evoked potentials, nerve conduction studies, intra-operative monitoring, and brainstem monitoring to include hook-up, reading, and scoring of the patient.
- Maintains instrumentation and equipment in proper working order, checking calibrations and making minor maintenance adjustments and repairs deemed appropriate.
- Participates in training junior personnel.
- Ensures adherence to laboratory policies and procedures regarding OSHA and JCAHO guidelines and hospital regulations; promotes continuous improvement in safety, environmental, and/or infection control practices and procedures.
