Neurohospitalist Director (F79690)

Position Summary

The Department of Neurology at VCU Health is seeking a full-time clinical faculty member to serve as the Neurohospitalist Director. This individual will report to the Chair of the Department of Neurology and be responsible for establishing and leading a Neurohospitalist Service that provides inpatient neurology and neurology consultation services throughout the health system, including the VCU Hospital in Richmond, and teleconsultation services to regional hospitals in South Hill and Tappahannock.

Position Responsibilities

• Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in the inpatient setting.
• Teaching medical students, neurology fellows, and critical care fellows from other services (e.g. Anesthesiology).
• Participate in and lead clinical research and clinical trials.
• Serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Qualifications

• Strategic thinker with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to listen and respond to a broad range of perspectives.
• MD/DO with residency training at an accredited institution.
• Eligibility for licensure in Virginia.
• BC/BE in Neurology.
• At least 3-5 years experience as a Neurohospitalist.
• Understanding of, and appreciation for, the three missions of research, education, and clinical care as it applies to inpatient and acute neurological care in the context of academic medicine.
• Strategic orientation that looks to collect, analyze, and act on relevant data to make thoughtful and equitable decisions for immediate action and long-term plans in clinical operations and quality initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
