Neurodiagnostic Technologist-III

Responsibilities

• Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 system.
• Is knowledgeable in EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events.
• Follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results.
• Maintains patient safety in communication to other patient care support staff during EEG if needed.
• Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use.
• Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation, product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive functions.
• Knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored.
• Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure.
• Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination.
• Understands and flows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit.
• Has knowledge of alternate montage protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied.
• Contacts supervisory staff as appreciated for problems within the EEG unit.
• Stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures.
• Performs any other related duties that is consistent with patient and technical care for this level.

Qualifications

• Education: Preferred: Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Neurodiagnostic Program, or an Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university is desired.
• Experience: Preferred: 6 months or more experience in Pediatrics desired.
• LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Registered from American Board Registered Electroencephalographic Technologists
• KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of: Entry level PC and Microsoft Windows, Basic Anatomy and Physiology
• Skills: Effective Communication, Team Orientated, Technical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to: Work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment, Work in scheduled and unpredictable situations
