Responsibilities

Electroencephalography (EEG) Technician:

  • Perform routine and specialized EEG recordings in accordance with established protocols.
  • Apply standardized electrode placement systems and verify acceptable impedance levels.
  • Configure, adjust, and modify EEG montages to capture peripheral nerve, spinal cord, subcortical, or cortical responses.
  • Monitor EEG recordings for electrographic abnormalities and physiologic changes.
  • Identify, annotate, and address EEG-specific artifacts during data acquisition.
  • Conduct evoked potential studies, including visual, auditory, and somatosensory modalities, as ordered.
  • Perform extended EEG procedures such as sleep-deprived studies or long-term monitoring when applicable.
  • Collect and preserve EEG recordings for physician interpretation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Electromyography (EMG) Technician:

  • Assist physicians with electromyography procedures and related neuromuscular studies.
  • Identify and mark anatomical landmarks for muscle and peripheral nerve testing.
  • Apply surface and needle electrodes appropriate for EMG procedures.
  • Configure and calibrate EMG acquisition parameters to ensure accurate muscle response recordings.
  • Support advanced neuromuscular testing, including repetitive nerve stimulation and reflex studies.
  • Collect and preserve EMG data for physician interpretation.
  • Participate in modality-specific education or training related to EMG procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma required.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification highly preferred.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a neurodiagnostic technology program preferred.

Experience

  • 2-3 years of work-related experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a medical office, clinic, or hospital setting preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of neurodiagnostic technology, principles, and procedures.
  • Understanding of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Proficiency in performing neurodiagnostic procedures using appropriate equipment.
  • Skill in operating neurodiagnostic equipment in accordance with safety, infection control, and quality assurance standards.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate data collection, documentation, and analysis.
  • Effective written, verbal, and telephone communication skills.
  • Ability to provide patient education consistent with a patient-centered care philosophy.

Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and clinical staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and understanding toward patients and their caregivers.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to manage inventory of testing supplies, including electrodes, needles, and other materials.
  • Ability to learn new neurodiagnostic techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Equipment Operated

  • Neurodiagnostic equipment and supplies, including diagnostic machines, electrodes, application materials, and cleaning agents.
  • Computer hardware and software for documentation and data management.

Work Environment

  • Medical office, exam room, and procedure room settings.
  • Frequent interaction with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common in clinical environments.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move neurodiagnostic equipment (up to 50 pounds, depending on equipment and setting).
  • Occasional assistance with patient transfer or transport.
  • Ability to manage stress related to patient care and workflow demands.

Other Requirements

  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
