Purpose Statement/Position Summary

The Neurodiagnostic Technician team provides comprehensive EEG monitoring and neurodiagnostic services for both inpatient units and the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), supporting a complex patient population that requires focused observation, accurate EEG setup, and continuous monitoring. The program has expanded to 22 total monitoring positions, including 5 dedicated night-shift roles, alongside growth of the EMU to 6 beds and the addition of 4 new EEG machines. Under direct supervision, Neurodiagnostic Technicians perform a wide variety of neurodiagnostic procedures, including EEGs, evoked potentials, and neonatal recordings in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsibilities include patient hook-ups, continuous EEG monitoring, electrode maintenance, data archiving and preparation for physician review, and equipment maintenance. Technologists work with patients of all ages and varying medical conditions while adhering to the standards and scope of practice established by Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, and ABRET ethical guidelines. The role requires the use of sophisticated neurodiagnostic equipment, delivery of high-quality patient care, support of patient education and performance improvement initiatives, and an understanding of growth and development across the lifespan.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) year experience in EEG or graduate from accredited Neurodiagnostic program with required 1200 hour practical experience completed.
  • Pediatric Experience preferred.

Documented Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated minimum of two (2) years having worked in EEG with pediatric experience preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification

  • HS graduate.
  • Graduate of a Neurodiagnostic program accredited by the committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation/ and or equivalent experience preferred.
  • ABRET Board eligible.
  • Current BLS.

Minimum of 2 years college preferred.
