About the role
The Network Technician III supports the Kentucky State Police South Communications Region, covering Posts 7, 10, 11, and 15. This position is part of a small team responsible for maintaining the radio network, remote radio sites, associated radio consoles, mobile radios, radar systems, data routers, sirens, and lights. The role requires on-call availability 24/7 and a Monday through Friday work schedule.
Responsibilities
- Perform analysis, design, planning, implementation, operation, service, and support of a complex 124-site terrestrial wireless communications network, including digital transceivers, routers, switches, consoles, PCs, modems, and end-user hardware.
- Install, modify, repair, and maintain peripheral end-user devices and interfaces with KSP networks and systems.
- Oversee procurement, inventory, and customer needs assessment.
- Conduct training sessions on equipment maintenance procedures, radio and radar operations, and other sub-system programs.
- Design, plan, implement, operate, and support critical KSP networks and systems, including VoiceOver IP telephony 911 PBX, computerized detection systems, multiplexed point-to-point, video, satellite, and terrestrial mesh networks.
- Provide project management for complex network projects, including initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing projects involving in-house staff, communications utility providers, and technology vendors.
- Maintain documentation of network configuration, forms, record design, test procedures, and problem reports from customers.
- Review, prepare, and maintain operational records and reports, including daily activity reports, time sheets, equipment inventory, system status reports, and other technical and administrative reports.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four years of experience in network services, IT systems support, IT production support, or a related field.
Substitutions:
- Additional education in computer science, IT, or a related field may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Additional experience in network services, IT systems support, IT production support, or a related field may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.
- A certification in an IT-related field may substitute for the required education.
Preferred Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Five years of experience maintaining communications systems.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting. This position has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months.
Pay
$6,022.12 monthly
Schedule
Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday through Friday, with 24/7 on-call availability.
