Network Refresh Documentation Intern

About the role

MBI is seeking an intern to support the Technical Director with documenting the new network equipment installed on MassTech's MassBroadband 123 (MB123) middle-mile network. This includes inspections of 23 Points of Interconnection (POIs), taking photos of the equipment and POI rooms, and developing new documentation for all new equipment.

Responsibilities

• Support MBI's Technical Director with the documentation of the MB123 network post the Network Equipment Refresh project
• Participate in POI inspections
• Take photos of POI rooms and the equipment located within and around POIs
• Support the Technical Director with network documentation in MS Visio and MS Excel formats
• Attend meetings as required

Requirements

• Current student pursuing a BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Systems, Information Technology, or other closely related field
• Candidate interest pursuing a career in telecom
• Experience with federal or state reporting (a plus)
• Industry certification(s); subject matter expertise with telecom, broadband or IT (a plus)
• Collaborative team player
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Familiarity with tools, such as Excel and Visio
• Knowledgeable about carrier-grade, ethernet, MPLS, middle mile, broadband, IP networks
• Knowledgeable about network equipment such as switches, routers, VPNs, fiber optic cables, etc

Qualifications

• Ability to occasionally attend meetings at our Westborough, MA office and travel to POIs located in Western and North Central MA

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $19 - $22 hourly, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's background, skills, and internal equity.
