About the role
Under general direction, responsible for activities related to network engineering. Ensures long-term requirements of Last Mile Networking Product Team and included in the overall Refining IT planning of the department.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, configure, and support network infrastructure, including switches, wireless devices, and network management platforms.
- Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity; identify trends and implement improvements to reduce risk and prevent outages.
- Troubleshoot complex network incidents across physical, virtual, cloud, and hybrid environments, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication with stakeholders.
- Implement switching, segmentation, wireless, DNS, DHCP, and IP addressing solutions aligned with business requirements.
- Maintain network documentation, diagrams, standards, operational procedures, and configuration records to support operational excellence and knowledge sharing.
- Perform network maintenance, upgrades, patching, lifecycle refreshes, and change management activities with minimal business disruption.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement secure network architecture, access controls, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements.
- Partner with vendors, managed service providers, project managers, and cross-functional IT teams to deliver network projects and resolve technical issues.
- Support disaster recovery, business continuity, and resiliency planning for critical network services.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements that increase reliability, scalability, automation, security, and cost effectiveness.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a network engineer working in the oil and gas industry, plant; Energy sector.
- Experience in network engineering, or a similar role.
Technical Skills
- Routing and switching: OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS, static routing, VLANs, STP, trunking, EtherChannel, QoS, multicast, and route redistribution.
- Network platforms: Cisco, Arista, or comparable enterprise networking technologies.
- Wireless networking: WLAN design, controller-based wireless, access points, RF troubleshooting, wireless security, guest access, and site surveys.
- Network services: DNS, DHCP, IPAM, NTP, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, syslog, certificate services, and load balancing.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting: SolarWinds, Wireshark, NetFlow, packet captures, SNMP monitoring, log analysis, performance baselining, and incident management tools.
- Documentation and process: Network diagrams, standards, runbooks, change management, configuration management, asset lifecycle planning, and technical knowledge articles.
Location: Galveston Bay, TX • Rate: $60-70/hr • Duration: 1 year contract with chance for extension
