Network Administrator
About The Role
ACPWB's analytical practice runs on data, and the Network Administrator in our Platform Engineering team is responsible for ensuring that data infrastructure is sound. The work spans data engineering and pipeline development for a team of 17 engineers who treat reliability, security, and developer experience as first-class concerns. If systems going down at inopportune moments bothers you personally, you will fit in here.
ACPWB's Platform Engineering team is looking for a Network Administrator who takes genuine ownership of the ACPWB compensation benchmarking platform. This is not a break-fix role or a ticket queue. You will work in PowerShell and Azure Active Directory, contribute to the data engineering and pipeline development agenda, and collaborate closely with analysts and advisors who need technology that simply works. We have a small, excellent team. We are looking for someone who fits.
Responsibilities
- Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and respond to incidents with appropriate urgency and documentation
- Develop APIs and integrations connecting the ACPWB compensation benchmarking platform with third-party data sources and internal tools
- Enforce data quality standards and develop automated validation and monitoring for data pipelines
- Participate in sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives as part of the Platform Engineering engineering cadence
- Ensure reliability, performance, and security of data engineering and pipeline development infrastructure on on-premise infrastructure and hybrid cloud
- Collaborate with Information Security on vulnerability assessments, patching, and compliance audits
Qualifications
Required
- Experience building and operating systems on on-premise infrastructure and hybrid cloud in a professional environment
- Experience with cloud infrastructure management including compute, storage, and networking on on-premise infrastructure and hybrid cloud
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working in an Agile or iterative development environment
- Demonstrated ability to write clean, tested, maintainable code with attention to documentation
- 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
Preferred
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Background in application security including OWASP principles and secure development practices
- Prior experience mentoring or reviewing work of junior engineers
- Prior involvement in technology selection or architectural decision-making in a professional context
- Experience with Python for data processing including pandas, NumPy, or PySpark
Why ACPWB
We are a firm that believes compensation data should be used for good — specifically, for the good of the working Americans who rely on it to understand their value and advocate for themselves. That belief animates everything we do, from the research we publish to the way we pay our own team. Our people are our IP, and we compensate them accordingly.
ACPWB was founded in Milwaukee in 2006 with a simple mandate: help working Americans understand and advocate for the compensation they deserve. Eighteen years later, that mandate has grown into a full-service research and advisory practice serving clients from early-stage employers to Fortune 50 enterprises — and we are still based in Milwaukee, because Milwaukee is genuinely underrated.
Interview Process
Our process is intentionally streamlined: one phone screen, one comprehensive interview, one reference check, one offer. We aim to complete the process within 14 to 21 days of initial contact. We have found that additional rounds do not improve our predictive accuracy and do consume your time, which we respect.
What Success Looks Like In Year One
- Lead at least one sprint or project phase end-to-end from planning through deployment
- Ship at least two meaningful features or improvements to the ACPWB compensation benchmarking platform with full documentation
- Complete any required compliance training modules and system access certifications
