About the role
Burns & McDonnell’s Boise office is seeking a Project Manager for our Environmental Services Global Practice. The technical areas encompassed by this position include environmental studies, NEPA analysis, permitting, with an emphasis on electric transmission siting, routing, project management, client development, and other various environmental services.
Responsibilities
- Project management, team leadership, management, mentoring, and recruiting of junior staff.
- Preparing routing and siting studies and evaluations, NEPA documentation, and Federal and state documentation for all types and sizes of environmental projects.
- Business development and networking.
- Assisting with and leading proposal and cost estimating efforts for environmental and siting projects.
- Regularly interfacing with various agencies, clients, and team members.
- Executing project tasks, managing project budgets and forecasts, and delivering client satisfaction.
- Demonstrating creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
- Developing, cultivating, and strengthening relationships with clients.
Requirements
- Experience in the following areas and with the regulatory requirements and processes of the following agencies: National Environmental Policy Act, State and Local Environmental and Land Use Permitting, Energy Facility Siting and Licensing, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Forest Service, State Wildlife Agencies, Federal and state historic preservation agencies.
- Specific experience in electricity transmission, oil & gas, renewables, and other similar markets is preferred.
- Experience with the resources and regulatory agencies in the Rocky Mountain West is preferred.
- Local, regional, and national knowledge and relationships with own existing clients is preferred.
- Demonstrated technical competence and project experience in natural, cultural, or socioeconomic resource fields applicable to industrial (primarily conventional or renewable energy generation/transmission) siting and licensing and environmental permitting projects preferred.
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters preferred.
- Strong experience working with both private and public sector clients is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to attract and retain clients and build a backlog, revenue, profit, direct labor, and return on investment (ROI) over time is preferred.
- Working understanding of GIS preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment, ability to work overtime on short notice.
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office.
- Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software.
- Client relationship development experience is a plus.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in engineering, construction management or related degree (environmental sciences, natural sciences, planning, etc.) from accredited program and 7 years applicable experience required. 10 years of experience preferred.
- Prior experience on construction project sites or executing program management in the industries of aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, or water is preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of related consulting experience in a wide variety of areas ranging from leading and managing technical teams, project management and business development (including 7 or more years managing engineering or environmental projects) and must also be able to effectively balance their direct and indirect utilization rates is preferred.
