About the role

The PA Inpatient Medicine position provides inpatient neonatology care at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – College Station. This role offers a 7-on/7-off schedule for excellent work-life balance, with approximately 62 hours per pay period.

Responsibilities

  • Neonatal patient management
  • Hospital admissions
  • Newborn rounding
  • Circumcisions
  • Coordination of care with multidisciplinary teams
  • Collaborative care model with: Neonatologists, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs), Registered Nurses, Social Workers, and Dedicated unit support staff
  • Structured onboarding with support from experienced APPs
  • Opportunities to teach nursing staff, students, and families
  • Participation in precepting and educational activities
  • Expand neonatal and inpatient medicine expertise

Requirements

No overnight call requirements. Manage approximately 16 patients per day. No specific education or experience required beyond the basic requirements listed in the qualifications section.

Qualifications

  • Grad of an Accredited Program
  • Less than 1 Year of Experience
  • Physician Assistants (PA) Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Skills

Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills. Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans. Ability to counsel patients concerning medical and psychological/psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification. Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests. Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas. Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).

Schedule

On-site coverage is from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM with phone call coverage only from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday-Friday. Weekend coverage is limited to 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM while on service. No overnight call requirements.
