About the role

The position provides public safety and security services as a Public Safety Officer assigned to the Boston University Medical Campus Department of Public Safety. The primary responsibility is to ensure a safe and secure environment at the National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratory (NEIDL).

Responsibilities

  • Enforce all policy and procedures set forth by the department and university for the protection of BUMC and NEIDL staff, students, employees, and medical center assets.
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the university and all associated regulatory and oversight agencies.
  • Provide alarm response, emergency medical assistance, investigate reports of suspicious circumstances, and respond to criminal matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice preferred and/or related work experience.
  • Pass a background check including drug test, previous/current employment verification, CORI/SORI, references, medical, and psychological examinations.
  • Possess and retain an appropriate Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms.
  • Successfully complete initial on-the-job training, the prescribed probation period, and on-going in-service training.

Qualifications

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or equivalent work experience. Candidates must also be able to pass a thorough background check, including drug testing, previous/current employment verification, CORI/SORI, references, medical, and psychological examinations. Additionally, successful completion of initial on-the-job training, the prescribed probation period, and on-going in-service training is required.

Skills

Proficiency in law enforcement protocols, crisis management, and emergency response is essential. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
