NDT Technician - 1173
About the role
This position requires the willingness to successfully learn and implement the job skills and technology associated with Non-Destructive Testing. Technician level is determined by experience, training and certifications achieved per NAS 410. The job requires the willingness to work the days and hours necessary to complete any given task, including nights and weekends. A willingness to work safely around x-radiation is required. A basic knowledge of aircraft and specifically aircraft structures is desired. Job duties will vary each day and will be designated by the NDT Supervisor or their designee.
Responsibilities
- Perform, under supervision, the required tasks associated with NDT, including parts disassembly, cleaning, preparation, testing, and post cleaning.
- Achieve and maintain certifications of NDT Level I, NDT Level 2, or Level 3 per NAS 410 and West Star Aviation’s written practice, including periodic re-certification.
- Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment, and tooling.
- Use basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
- Effectively and clearly communicate (speak, write, read) in English.
- Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
- Attend work every day as scheduled, including overtime and weekend assignments.
- Notify supervisor in advance if unable to work a shift.
- Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and designated NDT method specifications.
- Follow all company and safety rules; maintain customer-oriented work habits.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Airframe and Powerplant License preferred.
- Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport (ideal but not mandatory).
- At least the minimum amount of experience required by NAS 410, with all experience properly documented.
- Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints.
- Reliable transportation to get to work daily.
- Unquestioned integrity.
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
- Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
- Pass an eye test for vision and color blindness.
- Climb ladders and stairs; work in small restricted areas.
- Stand for long periods of time.
Mental Requirements
- Understand and implement regulations and guidelines.
- Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
- Work with others in a professional manner.
Supervision
Work under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an NDT lab or hangar environment, subject to extreme temperature variations.
- Varied positions in and around aircraft.
- Work around X-radiation will be required.
Equipment Used
- Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
- NDT equipment including ultraviolet lights, high amperage magnetic particle inspection machines, x-ray machines, x-ray film processor, eddy current tester, ultrasonic flaw detector, and other equipment as required.
Pay
The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $29–$45. Actual hourly rate will vary based on factors including location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential may be provided. Other forms of compensation include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
