About the role

At Sabre Industries, we connect and power America’s communities with world-class utility and telecom solutions. This position is responsible for conducting visual inspections, Magnetic Particle Inspection, and limited Ultrasonic Testing of products before, during, and after production processes to assure compliance with the Company’s standards and the Customer’s specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control NDT methods used by Sabre Industries/FWT facilities
  • Conduct in-process and final visual weld and dimensional inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1
  • Perform MT inspections as a Level II in accordance with Sabre’s quality requirements
  • Perform UT inspections as a Level II in accordance with Sabre’s quality requirements
  • Provide training and guidance for I inspectors
  • Verify product to specification
  • Read blueprints and understand manufacturing practices
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to co-workers and subordinates
  • Assist with projects as needed
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, including continuous quality improvement, safety, environmental, and/or infectious control standards
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information
  • Provide training, mentor, coach, and promote a passion for quality, customer satisfaction, and a client-focused view within Sabre Industries
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Regular and on-time attendance, working scheduled shifts and getting along with coworkers

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Meet AWS D1.1 requirements of a visual weld inspector
  • 20 hours of MT classroom training per STN-TC-1A, plus 280 verifiable OJT hours
  • 80 hours of UT classroom training per STN-TC-1A, plus 840 verifiable OJT hours

Skills & Abilities

  • Effectively read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols
  • Basic knowledge of welding fundamentals
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including rain, snow, heat, and cold
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Ability to input and retrieve information from PC-based systems
  • Ability to read and interpret safety and quality manuals, blueprints, and design drawings
  • Proven ability to use and understand measuring and testing equipment
  • Ability to use measuring devices such as tape measures, combination squares, and levels to verify parts

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift, push, pry, and drag heavy materials up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to reach, grasp, bend, stoop, crawl under, or climb over to inspect product
  • Ability to pass the Jaeger 2 test and distinguish between red and yellow
  • Work in a manufacturing environment that may be noisy, dusty, and vary in temperature
