About the role

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide your assigned residents with assistance in meeting scheduled needs as outlined in the care plan/service plan and in assisting with unscheduled needs when required according to established facility policies and procedures and as may be directed by your supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Greet residents in a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • Orientate resident and family to community routines.
  • Obtain admit height, weight, vital signs.
  • Absorb and administer medications according to facility policies and procedures and established standards of practice.
  • Assist resident with ADLs such as bathing, dressing, grooming, mouth care, toileting, etc.
  • Take and record blood pressure, pulse, respirations, height and weight.
  • Report any changes in resident’s condition including skin breakdown, behaviors, etc.
  • Assist resident in meal preparation, housekeeping and cleaning of residence and laundry.
  • Assist resident in use of telephone and other communication needs.
  • Become certified and maintain certification in Montessori Programming.
  • Implement concepts of Montessori programming in activities and individualized service/care plan for each resident.
  • Perform Montessori Based Dementia Programming with residents in all service programs.
  • Develop and implement Montessori Based activity program and activities.
  • Lead resident activity groups.
  • Wear appropriate clothing as described in the Dress Code policy.
  • Seek clarification of assignments and ask questions when needed.
  • Volunteer assistance to co-workers as time permits or as directed.
  • Treat co-workers with courtesy, respect and in a supportive manner at all times.
  • Resolve interpersonal conflict with co-workers directly and privately and seeks supervisor assistance as necessary.
  • Interact with residents and maintain resident-centered conversations when participants are present.
  • Maintain an environment for residents, families and guests that is customer friendly and that values and respects the uniqueness of each individual.
  • Attends department meetings, all staff meetings, mandatory in-services and training.
  • Understands and uses Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood borne Pathogen Standard and follows established infection control, hazardous communication and all safety rules.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices by compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Washes hands when gloves are removed and when soiled.
  • Uses hand sanitizer when appropriate.
  • Uses universal precautions according to facility policy including using Personal Protective Equipment and Blood and Body Fluid spill kit when indicated.
  • Proper disposal of waste products.
  • Uses proper body mechanics when performing tasks.
  • Reports hazardous conditions or equipment to manager immediately.
  • Uses proper body mechanics when performing tasks.
  • Reports accidents and incidents immediately to manager and completes incident report.
  • Follows established safety precautions and safe operating procedures in the performance of all duties.
  • Address residents by preferred name and avoid labels such as sweetie, dear or honey.
  • Discuss resident status in private.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident conversations unless doing so would jeopardize resident well-being.
  • Treat residents courteously, politely and in a physically appropriate manner.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident information.
  • Uses discretion when dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Respond to family/resident complaints consistent within facility policy.
  • Knowledgeable about resident rights and respects rights of residents at all times.
  • Documents resident behaviors on the Resident Care & Concern Form and reports to manager.
  • Reports emergent resident concerns to your manager immediately. Documents any non-emergent concerns on the Health & Wellness Concern Form.

  • Works throughout the resident areas (i.e., med rooms, offices, resident condominiums, common spaces, health areas. etc.).
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the work day.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.
  • Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends, holidays, and in other positions temporarily as necessary.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the HIV, Hepatitis B (HBV) and Hepatitis C (HCV) viruses.
  • Communicates with other department personnel.

    Qualifications

    • Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education.
    • Must be willing to become a Certified Medication Aide in accordance with the laws of this state.
    • Must be certified as a Nurse Assistant or become a UAP on the NDBON registry.
    • Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age.
    • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
    • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
    • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
    • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as willingness to handle difficult residents.
    • Must be able to accurately report information concerning a resident’s condition.

    Physical and Sensory Requirements

    • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
    • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
    • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
    • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
    • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
    • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
    • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people in the community.
    • Must be able to stoop, turn, bend, stretch, crawl, kneel, reach overhead, horizontally and down, and lift, push, pull and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
    • Requires frequent standing, walking and occasional sitting.
    • Requires ability to smell, discriminate speech, speak clearly, discriminate color, and possess intact peripheral vision.
    • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
    • Requires occasional work with toxic chemicals, sprays, mists, etc.
    • Requires frequent use of the hands, arms, legs and feet.
    • Requires frequent use of gloves.
    • Requires balancing and rapid mental-muscular coordination.
    • Requires occasional use of a face shield or facial protection.

      Pay

      $15.00 per hour.

      Schedule

      Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
