NCMS Instructional Coach
About the Role
Acts as the key instructional coach for the school. The IC provides training and support to the staff on instructional strategies/procedures, teaching resources, technology integration for instruction, and student-centered applications. The IC assists with identifying, acquiring, and maintaining software, network, and online products which match district teacher/student needs. This individual also assists with professional development for staff members in educational methods and technology integration.
Responsibilities
- Meet with all new and second-year teachers in the building as part of the mentor/mentee program during quarterly cohort meetings and any other instances as needed.
- Field questions and/or concerns from mentors (and mentees) who may need guidance in their role.
- Provide onsite assistance to staff in selection of instructional strategies, resources, and/or solutions.
- Conduct staff development in the practices of teaching and student learning.
- Help administrators manage and maintain the Secondary Building and Secondary Office Shared Drive content.
- Attend assigned weekly departmental PLC meetings.
- Manage and maintain CFA documentation/data.
- Assist admin in sharing and communicating common formative assessment (CFA) expectations and requirements to teachers.
- Serve as the building contact for textbook companies/representatives when adopting new textbook material.
- Provide onsite assistance to staff in selection of technological instructional strategies, resources, and/or solutions.
- Conduct staff development in the practices of teaching and areas of technology in all curriculum areas.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to develop intentional and effective online instructional/assessment methods to enhance student learning.
- Conduct school-oriented voting events through Google Forms.
- Act as a liaison between teaching staff and technology department (e.g., needed access to blocked websites/online tools, network functionality troubleshooting).
- Model the integration of technology during classroom visits and co-teaching sessions in all curriculum areas.
- Assist technology department with planning and evaluation processes.
- Engage in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the instructional technology planning, program, and staff development.
- Help identify, design, and effectively incorporate technology plans, tools, and programs into the school's learning environment.
- Serve as a source of information on trends, research, applications, and effective practices related to technology use in the school program.
- Provide technical advice and assistance to building-level users of technology (including admin and secretaries).
- Serve as point of contact for issues related to GoGuardian functionality such as student/teacher access, student monitoring/restrictions, etc.
- Assist in purchasing, planning, and evaluating educational software and materials (e.g., ed tech online apps, online textbook software, etc.).
- Help manage Clever integration for online ed tech apps and textbook access for both students and teachers.
- Serve as the school contact for solving educational software problems.
- Attend meetings and staff development functions as necessary to develop skills.
- Assist teachers and students on the day-to-day usage of technology in the classroom and serve as a resource for troubleshooting.
- Assist all faculty with their knowledge of Google Workspace apps and other similar educational technology tools.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or other administrative staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Education or Instructional Technology.
- Strong operational knowledge in technology and educational technology for classroom instruction preferred.
- Valid Teaching Certificate, K-12, Secondary Education Certification preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, students, and the general public.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of Basic Algebra and Geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical Demands
The employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand; travel from building to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The employee regularly works inside. The noise level in the work environment is normal.
