Under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations, the Navigator tracks all Advanced Bladder Cancer (ABC) patient appointments, labs, imaging, injections, and scheduling to ensure timely and appropriate care. Responsible for enrolling and obtaining approval for ABC patients in respective pharmaceutical programs prior to therapy initiation. Identifies potential ABC patients through the EHR and presents them to the ABC physician. Assists with other duties to support clinic efficiency, including diagnostic procedures, reception, and medical records.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient care, including scheduling, care transitions, communication, and referrals in collaboration with physicians and the broader care team.
- Provide and reinforce education for patients, families, and caregivers about diagnosis, treatment options, side effect management, and post-treatment care.
- Ensure documentation of patient communication, encounters, and services in the electronic health record system.
- Compile data, track outcomes, and make recommendations for process improvement.
- Prepare for patient visits as needed.
- Manage general assignments with effective time management and prioritization.
- Continually assess patients’ treatment progress and educational needs.
- Maintain a system to identify patients in the clinic who may benefit from advanced bladder cancer care/therapy.
- Support physician-patient relationships through diplomatic and tactful communication.
- Communicate appropriate information to patients as directed by the physician.
- Familiar with practices and duties at the Wolf River Clinic and outlying clinics; able and willing to work at these locations as needed.
- Communicate regularly with supervisor, providing updates and feedback.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA; document and report occurrences promptly.
- Support and adhere to company policies, procedures, and management decisions; maintain confidentiality of patient and administrative information.
- Demonstrate dependability in attendance, punctuality, and initiative; meet deadlines and use resources efficiently.
- Display a positive outlook and constructive manner when working with others.
- Demonstrate superior patient relations, interpersonal skills, and professionalism in interactions with staff, patients, and the public.
Requirements
- Completion of a nursing program from an accredited school.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure.
- Two years of nursing experience, preferably with advanced bladder cancer patients.
- Phlebotomy/venipuncture experience.
- CPR certification.
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Occasional overtime, evening, and weekend work.
- Valid driver’s license, dependable automobile, and current auto insurance for occasional travel and satellite location work.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged sitting and standing, with some bending, stooping, and stretching; moderate physical exertion.
- Capacity to maintain physical activity over prolonged periods (stamina).
- Able to read information in various formats (paper, computer, reports, etc.).
- Able to hear for work-related purposes.
- Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
- Able to lift up to 30 pounds.
Environmental Conditions
- Work is generally performed under normal office conditions.
- Normal level of visual strain.
- Ability to cope with stress from public interaction, multiple demands, and extraneous noises.
- Possible exposure to contagious diseases.
