Job Responsibilities

This employee will be responsible for performing advanced technical duties in support of Region III Fisheries Program.

  • Collecting field data and samples by a variety of methods in accordance with pre-defined guidelines.
  • Maintaining Project equipment, workspace, buildings and grounds.
  • Processing biotic and abiotic samples in the laboratory using standard methods.
  • Performing routine fisheries habitat enhancements.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

  • An associate degree in the technical sciences and one (1) year of experience in wildlife or fisheries work; or
  • A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a variety of field sampling methods including telemetry, electrofishing, gill netting, trap netting and seining.
  • Ability to age fish using scales and otoliths.
  • Ability to field identify common fish species and to use a dichotomous key to identify all SC fish species.
  • Working familiarity with computer data entry and word processing.
  • Ability to independently operate and trailer a powered watercraft and perform routine maintenance on outboard motors, boats and trailers.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, and in all aquatic and wetland habitats found in SC.
  • Night sampling and occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Ability to swim and lift heavy objects.
