Natural Resource Technician III

Job Responsibilities

• Assisting with fish culture activities at Bayless Hatchery and DWC, which includes broodstock collection, spawning, pond stocking, fertilization, feeding, water quality monitoring, harvesting, and distribution.
• Ensuring broodfish genetic records are maintained and coordinating fish tissue DNA samples for analysis.
• Maintaining Bayless Hatchery and DWC grounds, culture rearing systems, ponds, tanks, and raceways.
• Assisting with pond filling, draining, fertilization, and aquatic weed treatments in rearing ponds for phase I striped bass production.
• Coordinating with the hatchery manager to fulfill duties when staff are absent.
• Managing seasonal staff at DWC.
• Assisting other state and federal hatcheries with harvest and distribution of fish.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

• An associate degree in the technical sciences and one (1) year of experience in wildlife or fisheries work; or a high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work.
• Preferred qualifications include knowledge of common fishery practices and procedures, skilled in operation of heavy equipment, boats, lawn mowers, tractors, etc., skilled in data collection and processing, understanding of best laboratory practices for DNR collection, preservation and sample management, proficiency in data storage and management, skilled in the collection and analysis of water chemistry samples in aquaculture environments, ability to swim, work in the field in adverse weather, repeatedly lift heavy objects, and work comfortably in and around water, and ability to participate in infrequent overnight travel.
