Alta Forest Products, in collaboration with Itochu Building Products, is the world's largest producer of wood fence boards, specializing in Western Red Cedar and other premium species from the Pacific and Inland Northwest forests. In addition to manufacturing fence boards and pallet stock lumber, Alta's advanced sawmills operate with zero wood waste, producing valuable by-products such as wood chips, sawdust, mulch, and biofuel. Headquartered in Chehalis, Washington, Alta operates fence board sawmills, reload facilities, and log yards in Pacific Northwest rural communities.

About the role

The National Retail Accounts Manager at Alta Forest Products is responsible for developing and managing retail relationships to drive sales and market share growth, particularly with Big Box retailers. This role involves implementing sales and marketing strategies, optimizing operational processes, and representing the organization as a brand ambassador. The ideal candidate will have significant sales experience, preferably in consumer products to national accounts, and strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own and be responsible for daily operations with Big Box retailers.
  • Increase revenue through the implementation of sales and marketing strategies.
  • Establish, maintain, and optimize operational processes to ensure superior customer experience and satisfaction.
  • Learn and gain proficiency in operating systems, including Infor M3 and retailer systems like Vendor Drill, Askuity, IDM, etc.
  • Represent Alta Forest Products as a knowledgeable, professional, and respected brand ambassador, embodying the image and values of the organization.
  • Monitor and measure the performance of retailers against sales targets.
  • Plan and communicate inventory movements to ensure 98% fill rates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional sales experience, preferably from consumer products to national accounts.
  • Previous management experience in wood products, home improvement, construction, or related fields.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, including attending annual conventions and sales meetings.
  • Must demonstrate past successes in national account sales and business growth.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, nonverbal, and presentation).
  • Demonstrated planning, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills at multiple levels.
  • Skills to manage ambiguity and lead change.
  • Proven track record of working toward KPIs and achieving targets.
  • Hands-on experience with CRM software.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Capability to maintain confidentiality in all mandated assignments.
  • Ability to relate to and interact with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient working knowledge of computers and Microsoft® Office Suite.
  • Competence to lead and guide other (new/inexperienced) staff in the relevant specialty area.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team.

  • MBA degree preferred.

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional office, sawmills, customer offices, and networking events. While performing the duties of this job, employees may occasionally be exposed to machinery and moving mechanical parts. This position may be exposed to noise, hazards, airborne particulates, and temperature changes in both indoor and outdoor weather conditions. This role is onsite in Chehalis, with the option for some hybrid flexibility.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to be independently mobile.
  • Occasionally lift or carry 25 pounds or more; may be required to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping for extended lengths of time.
  • Must frequently use hands and fingers to handle, feel, climb, or balance.

Schedule

This position is exempt per FLSA guidelines and not eligible for overtime. A typical schedule requires the ability to work 40 hours a week. Flexibility to work evenings or weekends to accommodate critical goals and objectives may be necessary. Travel for this position may be required as work demands up to 20%.

Pay

Pay Range: $85,500 - $125,000+ per year (starting wage will be dependent on qualifications and experience).
