National History Day Learning Facilitator in Stevens Point - LTE
Position Summary
The National History Day (NHD) in Stevens Point Learning Facilitator supports the implementation and growth of the NHD program in the Stevens Point region. This work is part of a grant-funded initiative by the Wisconsin Historical Society to enhance civic learning and historical literacy education in central Wisconsin. The NHD in Stevens Point Learning Facilitator provides support to students and educators, including digital resources, in-person presentations, and one-on-one coaching for educators. They also coordinate visits by students and teachers to Stevens Point-area museums and research centers.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate learning experiences for students and teachers in the Stevens Point region participating in National History Day and those involved in the NHD cohort:
- Facilitate virtual and in-person workshops about research, civic learning, and historical literacy for Stevens Point classrooms participating in National History Day.
- Revise and update curricular resources to support student research.
- Revise and update facilitation resources for teachers.
- Coordinate and facilitate student research visits to WHS Library and Archives during the fall semester.
- Provide NHD contest logistical support:
- Provide administrative and event coordination support for the Stevens Point NHD regional contest.
- Attend and help facilitate the Stevens Point NHD regional contest.
- Actively communicate information about the Stevens Point NHD regional contest to participating teachers and schools.
- Engage Stevens Point area schools and teachers in NHD
Qualifications
- Prior experience facilitating learning in classroom settings highly preferred.
- Enthusiasm for teaching and engaging students in the study of history literacy, research, and civic engagement in an informal learning environment.
- Excellent communication and organization skills and ability to effectively engage with large groups.
- Must be available to support the Stevens Point NHD regional contest, which takes place February through April.
- Experience working with PK-12 groups and/or developing learning experiences for these audiences preferred.
- Ability to use a computer and possess working knowledge of word processing, database software, and virtual meeting facilitation.
- Ability to meet deadlines and arrive on time.
- Ability to work weekend and evening hours for a limited number of programs and events.
- Driver’s license required
