Animal Encounters Facilitator at Old World Wisconsin - LTE

Position Summary

Duties

• Facilitate interactions in Animal Encounters by being a knowledgeable guide to the site’s animal ambassadors and animal programs.
• Aid guests with animal interactions, communicating guidelines and safety considerations.
• Perform daily housekeeping and operational tasks to ensure Animal Encounters is guest ready, including sweeping, cleaning, and resetting equipment. This includes direct contact with hay.
• Communicate key information about OWW’s animal programs, including heritage breed livestock conservation, historic agricultural practices, and animal welfare.
• Communicate best practices for health and safety, as well as prevention of zoonotic disease transmission to guests interacting with live animals.
• Facilitate animal programming for guests on OWW grounds and aid Animal Care staff with basic husbandry duties.
• Facilitate interactions with live animal ambassadors during school tour programs

Salary Information

Pay is $14.00 per hour with a weekend differential of 80 cents per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 18-00.

Job Details

• A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.
• This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 30 - 40 hours per week.
• Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.
• Limit Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.
• WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• At least one year experience working with domestic animals is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, with groups and one-on-one.
• Work with diverse audiences and team members to realize exceptional service.
• Thriving in an environment where every day is different.
• Use email and enter time using computer technology.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Use critical thinking and problem-solving to handle multiple tasks with a positive attitude.
• Safely maneuver through historic buildings and outdoor locations, several times per day.
• Be comfortable driving small farm equipment, like John Deere Gators
