Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and synthesizes information to make decisions about accepting, modifying, or rejecting risks.
  • Provides direction and guidance to less experienced underwriters during the evaluation process.
  • Reviews and evaluates all assigned risks, including plan design and experience review.
  • Works with sales and service teams to prospectively price and renew all business lines.
  • Uses expertise in manual rating approach, experience rating methodology, and reinsurance to influence pricing decisions.
  • Evaluates inforce business to identify opportunities for cross-sell, enrollment, and plan design changes.
  • Communicates case positions to senior leadership in a clear and concise manner.
  • Partners with sales and national account management to enhance business goals.
  • Evaluates complex cases requiring multiple stakeholder input and agreement.
  • Utilizes knowledge of IEB to evaluate cases effectively.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to reduce workload or improve quality.
  • Mentors less experienced underwriters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and relevant experience.
  • Seven to ten years relevant underwriting experience, preferably with National Accounts.
  • Thorough knowledge of group underwriting principles and practices on all lines of coverage.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize high volume/deadline workload.
  • High level of customer service orientation.
  • Strong understanding of predictive analytics and alternative rating information.
  • Mastery of negotiation skills with internal and external customers.
  • Mastery of project management skills.
  • Proficient understanding of Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Travel to Sales Offices as required.
