About the Role
This position is responsible for coordinating student scholar development for national and international competitive scholarships and fellowships, and supporting students in their academic programs at the Center for Tribal Studies.
Responsibilities
- Identify and recruit students, with an emphasis on Native American students, for nationally competitive scholarships, fellowships, leadership institutes, research opportunities, and graduate education pathways.
- Advise and assist students in navigating the application process for scholarships, fellowships, leadership institutes, research opportunities, and graduate education pathways.
- Coordinate timelines for review processes and track student participation.
- Assist students in identifying undergraduate research, graduate school, public service, and other leadership opportunities.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to expand student scholar opportunities.
- Develop partnerships with tribal nations, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and university departments.
- Coordinate academic services available on campus.
- Assist the chair of the Annual Symposium on the American Indian.
- Compile and edit the NSU American Indian Student Profile.
- Manage internal student program and activity budgets.
- Supervise the work of student workers.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of local, regional, and national demographics related to American Indian populations.
- Knowledge of the sovereign status and general government operations of Tribal nations.
- Knowledge of the history, policies, and best practices of Indian Education.
- Knowledge of funding agent regulations and relevant university policies and procedures.
- Skill in delegating responsibility and authority.
- Skill in operating computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree in a field related to the occupational area.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties, typically associated with 1-2 years of similar experience or an apprenticeship/internship.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience supporting American Indian students in a postsecondary educational setting.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises assigned student workers.
Work Environment
- Work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table in an office setting.
- Occasional lifting of light objects may be required.
- Contacts include co-workers, university personnel, faculty, staff, students, parents, community and business leaders, tribal officials, government agents, and the general public.
Pay
Annual salary of $34,356.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
