Music Therapist

About the role

Provides comprehensive music therapy assessment and treatment interventions for pediatric patients, siblings, and families. Works within UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals’ donor-funded facility dog program, where highly trained dogs are partnered with credentialed child life specialists and music therapists to help children and families navigate illness, injury, disability, trauma, or hospitalization.

• Conducts group and individual music therapy sessions.
• Maintains accurate and up-to-date charting, data, and statistics.
• Manages supplies and organizes inventory.
• Supports community and donor relations.
• Supervises music therapy interns and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with facility dog and handler to build therapeutic relationships with patients and meet each child’s medical needs.
• Deliver animal-assisted therapy to achieve measurable improvements in blood pressure, cardiovascular health, endorphin release, and emotional/mental health for patients, families, and staff.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program.
• Board-certified Music Therapist (MT-BC).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to various medical settings and work with diverse patient populations.
• Strong musical skills and knowledge of a wide range of musical styles.
• Three years of relevant experience with a master’s degree in music therapy or related field, or four years of relevant experience without a master’s degree in music therapy or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with pediatric populations in a healthcare setting.
• Experience in research and/or supervision.
