Responsibilities
- Teach advanced music theory concepts, including notation, scales, key signatures, intervals, chords, chord progressions, rhythm, meter, harmony, counterpoint, and ear training.
- Explain Roman numeral analysis, voice leading rules, four-part chorale writing, and formal structures to prepare students for AP Music Theory, college courses, and conservatory auditions.
- Guide students in harmonic analysis, part-writing, aural skills development, interval and chord identification by ear, and sight-singing with solfege.
- Connect theoretical knowledge to practical musicianship, applying music theory to composition, arranging, and performance interpretation.
- Adapt instruction using ear training software, part-writing exercises, and score analysis to support students from beginner to advanced levels.
- Identify and address common student challenges, such as aural interval identification, voice leading rules, and chromatic harmony analysis.
- Use multiple teaching approaches to explain concepts and tailor instruction to individual learning needs and styles.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of music theory, including notation, scales, key signatures, intervals, chords, chord progressions, rhythm, meter, harmony, counterpoint, form analysis, and ear training.
- Ability to teach Roman numeral analysis, voice leading rules, four-part chorale writing, and formal structures for AP Music Theory, college courses, and conservatory auditions.
- Experience with adaptive instruction, including familiarity with music theory curricula and common student challenges.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
