About the role

Long-term substitute position covering a leave of absence from August 25th through September 21st. We are seeking a Music teacher to create a student-centered, problem-based learning environment in a small, diverse setting. The ideal candidate collaborates well, is flexible and dynamic, and is passionate about teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Danbury Board of Education.
  • Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines to maintain an advantageous learning environment.
  • Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives, appropriate techniques, and tailored to all learners.
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge of Music.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences and keep parents updated on student progress.
  • Assess student learning continually and identify areas for intervention.
  • Design instruction for individual and small group settings to meet the needs of all students.
  • Implement assessments that measure progress and refine curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication.
  • Uphold a positive school community image and encourage ethical student behavior.
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and educational materials.
  • Participate in professional learning through seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of teaching methods, materials, and practices for elementary Music education.

Requirements

  • Active 040 CDE Music Certification as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Music.
  • Demonstrated experience in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to teach music classes, with experience in team teaching preferred.
  • Urban teaching experience is a plus.
  • Strong human relations skills to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, and staff.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods and materials applicable to elementary school Music education.
  • Ability to prepare effective lesson plans.

  • Experience working with adolescent students in a diverse school setting.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Effective, active listening skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Pay

Salary and wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education.
