About the Role

The College of the Holy Cross seeks a voice instructor to join the Music Department's roster of instrumental and vocal instructors. Lesson instructors are at-will employees and are compensated $1000 per semester per student for 10 one-hour lessons and $500 per semester per student for 10 one-half-hour lessons. The successful applicant will be required to complete Holy Cross's Boundary Training for lesson instructors. The position reports to the Chair of the music department.

Responsibilities

  • Teach individual voice lessons, as needed, to music majors and non-majors.
  • Based on qualifications, possible additional ad hoc duties—such as participating in auditions, juries, and coachings—may be assigned with additional compensation.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Music Performance
  • 3-5 years experience teaching voice lessons to college-age students
  • Experience in professional performance activities
  • Willingness to teach all levels of students from beginning to advanced
  • Willingness to work with ensemble directors to support student participation in ensembles
  • Evidence of creating an inspiring and productive teaching environment
  • Ability to accommodate students' individual learning styles
  • Ability to teach students enrolled in Music 331/332 or 431/432 for full credit and a letter grade, in coordination with the Chair of the Department
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in repertory (e.g., music composed by women, historically and geographically underrepresented identity groups, and unfamiliar musics, both old and new)
  • Commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of an active performance schedule
  • Interest and/or experience in teaching voice in a liberal arts context

Skills

  • Superb musicianship
  • Understands, values, and respects diversity as an individual, in a team, and within groups while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Dependability

Pay

Lesson instructors are compensated $1000 per semester per student for 10 one-hour lessons and $500 per semester per student for 10 one-half-hour lessons. For the first semester only, candidates will be paid for a minimum of three students whether or not three students enroll.
