Adjunct Instructor of Music: Voice

Responsibilities

  • Conduct weekly private lessons.
  • Facilitate a positive culture within the music department.
  • Prepare students for juries, recitals, and ensemble performances.
  • Guide students to achieve the required level of performance proficiency within a multi‑year developmental curriculum.
  • Recruit students and attend juries and recitals to provide realistic assessments of student performances.
  • Demonstrate and support a commitment and sensitivity to diversity, gender equity, and equal opportunity.
  • Possible assignment to teach additional courses in the area of expertise.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure an environment that promotes student safety.
  • Work collaboratively with the music department to monitor progress and eligibility of all students, and to establish program performance requirements.
  • Partner with the Coordinator of Choirs on recruiting activities, school visits, master‑class/guest‑artist visits, and assist with summer camps and workshops.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with students and their families.
  • Develop and maintain an active role in university and community events and programs.
  • Establish connections to high school choir programs, TMEA, and TCDA.
  • Collaborate with Student Services and Residence Life staff regarding student needs and behavior issues.

Qualifications

  • Master of Music degree, or a minimum of 18 graduate hours in music; doctorate preferred.
  • Knowledge of overall operations of a successful vocal music program.
  • Experience in identifying and recruiting students.
  • Plan to establish connections to high school choir programs, TMEA, and TBA.
  • Firm commitment to a student‑centered culture and the academic success of students.
  • Excellent computer, written, and oral communication skills.
