Music Instructor

Pay

$18.00 - $25.00 per hour (expected hiring rate around $20.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications)

Schedule

Hours vary by week, up to a maximum of 8 hours per week. Must be available to work weeknights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned Salvation Army corps in Massachusetts to teach and lead music classes, as well as group and private music lessons
  • Work with the Divisional Music Director and Salvation Army officer(s) to promote and plan local music events, including helping local leaders plan programs, advertising music programs to the public, and implementing special events like concerts and recitals
  • Prepare musicians for seasonal performances during Christmas and Easter
  • Encourage and help prepare musicians to participate in Divisional music programs like Youth Arts Ministry, Star Search, and Music Conservatory
  • Communicate all problems or concerns to the Divisional Music Director
  • Remain current with KeepSAfe training
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience leading and teaching a music discipline
  • Musical experience or expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: brass, vocal, guitar, piano
  • Valid driver’s license and personal transportation
  • Ability to work and relate well with people
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English

Physical Requirements

  • Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or occasional continuous basis
  • Grasp, push, pull objects such as reference materials, files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
  • Ability to load and change settings, devices, fixtures on various equipment used in and around an office environment
  • Operate telephone and other electronic communication devices
  • Operate various office equipment including personal computers, copiers, fax machines, and scanning equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to travel throughout the Division via car, train, or airplane
  • Ability to be creative, original, intuitive, and perceptive
  • Ability to think logically and critically
  • Ability to envision a project from beginning to end
  • Ability to solve complex problems, make appropriate judgments, and decisions
