Key Areas Of Responsibilities And Specific Job Tasks
- Acquire, Organize, Digitize, Preserve, and Provide Information Resources and Services
- Participates in processing archival collections and creating finding aids in ArchivesSpace
- Affords assistance with collection maintenance through management of print serials, including preparation of serials for bindery
- Manages accessibility services for music collections, including (but not limited to) course reserves and digital collections
- Instruction, Consultation, and Public Services
- Provides and oversees library reference services at a public desk or through various technologies
- Performs circulation services; performs complex resource sharing requests and resolves routine problems
- Is responsible for monitoring and serving the Music Library’s Aeon queue
- Responsible for opening the Music Library on Sunday and closing the library Sunday-Thursday
Leadership/Staff and Resource Management/Financial Responsibility
- Manages and processes course reserves services for the Music Library
- Writes and updates procedure manuals and training documents for course reserves and print serials maintenance
- Provides functional supervision of 10-15 student workers, including participation in hiring, training, and coaching; ensures compliance with UI policies and procedures
- Responsible for responding to building, facility, or security emergencies
Continuous Learning & Skills Development
- Attends relevant trainings on systems and supervision as recommended by supervisor or self-endorsed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Minimum of one-year relevant work experience
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent public service
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational and service issues, exercising sound judgement and decision making
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with a variety of user populations
- Ability to read music fluently
Preferred (Desired) Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Library and Information Science, Music, or a related field
- Experience working in a music library or other research library environment
- Experience supervising employees, particularly student workers in an academic setting
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to independently manage competing priorities
- Ability to efficiently learn and perform technical and complex tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with others and in groups and/or team settings
- Reading proficiency in French, Italian, Latin, or other foreign language
