Museum Specialist (History)
About the role
This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbent performs a variety of duties, including oversight for all objects and official records, in connection with the management of the library's museum collections. The incumbent also carries out individual research and/or exhibit projects and performs a variety of public service duties.
Responsibilities
- Lead staff, students, and volunteers for proper procedures with regard to the care, registration, and documentation of the 3-dimensional museum object collection.
- Afford assistance to the Registrar in coordinating cataloging of the museum collection and maintain manual and automated collection inventories and file systems for tracking the movement and documentation of all museum collection artifacts.
- Afford assistance to the Curator with exhibition planning, development, object selection, design, fabrication, installation, monitoring, and deinstallation.
- Create content and design for online virtual exhibits.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
- For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Conducting custodial duties related to 3-dimensional objects in a museum collection. Duties such as preservation, registration, inventory, security, and documentation.
- Using current techniques to complete the development, fabrication, installation, and/or maintenance of physical and virtual exhibits in a museum setting.
- OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the position; (Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.)
