Description QR Code Link to This Post The Museum Educator presents educational tours and hands-on activities to children and adults primarily at the San Mateo County History Museum in downtown Redwood City and occasionally at the Folger Stable at Wunderlich Park in Woodside. This position is on an as-needed basis. In general, the Museum Educator will work 6-15 hours per week during the school year. Ideal candidates will have reliable transportation to both the San Mateo County History Museum in downtown Redwood City and Folger Stable at Wunderlich Park in Woodside. The Museum Educator enhances the visitor experience through providing active, engaging tours and activities for mostly elementary school children. Responsibilities Under moderate supervision, set-up and present interactive programs and tours to school groups (primarily 1st- 4th grade) at the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City and Folger Stables in Woodside. These programs address the themes of transportation, natural resources, and immigration. Use a variety of educational materials, resources and equipment during programs. Provide instruction and minor supervision of chaperones running hands-on activities during the tours and programs. Clean up after programs. Present engaging general tours for youth and adult groups. Working closely with staff and volunteers, provide a helpful environment for visitors during tours and programs. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications Education and Experience: High School Diploma, some college preferred, and two years working experience, preferably with children. Public speaking, teaching or museum experience helpful. General knowledge of and/or interest in history of California and San Mateo County. Traits, Skills And Abilities Reliable and dependable. Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work enthusiastically and effectively with visitors, museum staff, volunteers and program participants (including adults and children). Ability to be flexible while working in a busy, active public work environment. Ability to provide an atmosphere that reinforces a positive environment for students. Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural community. Working Conditions Requires a lot of time standing and walking and some bending. May include moving light furniture and program props. May require lifting objects weighing up to 35 pounds. A background check will be performed.
