About the role

This position is a Museum Curator role within the Massachusetts National Guard (MA ARNG) Chief of Staff. It is a Bargaining Unit position.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, administers and manages state National Guard (NG) museum, exhibits, or historical collection in accordance with Army Center for Military History (CMH), Army Museum Enterprise (AME), and state policy.
    • Researches, collects, identifies, catalogs, prevents conservation, documents, and displays each item in the museum/collection.
    • Analyzes the collection to identify collecting areas, develops and implements long-range plans for the collection in accordance with the state's ARNG museum mission statement.
    • Builds the collection by coordinating with staff and leadership to identify and secure items of historical interest or relevance used in current/recent operations.
    • Develops NG standard operating procedures as directed by the Chief of Staff and develops core museum documents in accordance with AR 870-20.
  • Maintains environmental conditions and serves as the authoritative expert on the required and appropriate care of historical property and ensures the security of the collection.
    • Serves as an advisor to USPFO and logistical leaders on historical property matters.
  • Leads development of museum exhibits.
    • Develops original plans/exhibit scripts and/or collaborates with exhibit designers on final designs for exhibits, including research necessary for preparation of exhibits and determining gallery space required.
    • Restores and prepares items to be exhibited.
    • Ensures the exhibit is accessible and conforms to the museum's mission statement.
    • Maintains the exhibit area.
  • Plans state, territory, or district-level educational and interpretive programs.
    • Promotes awareness of state NG history through limited direct teaching and lectures.
    • Facilitates public programming, including informative tours of the state's NG museum or exhibits for members of the public and distinguished visitors to the state JFHQ, RTI or other high traffic area.
      • Assists in the development and implementation of school curriculum for secondary and elementary schools in the community.
    • Answers telephonic and written inquiries providing technical and general information upon request to military agencies, clubs, teachers, researchers, students, and other interested individuals.
      • Manages volunteer participation within the museum in accordance with applicable policy and guidelines.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required documents

    • A valid resume with dates of experience (to include Months and Years of employment) and at least 5 bullets of work experience for the duties you performed.
    • NGB 22 or DD214 - Documents required for former members showing membership in the Massachusetts National Guard.
    • Unofficial Transcripts - If used to qualify (An official transcript may be required before being hired.)
