MUSCP - Certified Medical Assistant - Primary Care at Health West
Responsibilities
- Rooming patients
- Taking vitals and health history
- Documenting in an electronic medical record
- Giving injections and assisting with minor procedures
- Auxiliary tasks such as checking-in/checking-out patients, assisting with scheduling, screening patients, providing patient education, observing and reporting patient conditions, responding to phone calls, triaging patients, preparing for physician exams and procedures, instructing patients on treatment and medication, monitoring and distributing medication, and administering prescribed treatments and tests.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred
- Certified through AMT, AAMA, NHA, NAHP, MedCA, CCMA, or NCCT
- Current BLS required
Qualifications
Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and any other pertinent information, communicates as appropriate. Documents test and exam results. Maintains exam room supplies, instruments and cleanliness of patient care environment. Assists with appointment scheduling and referrals based on urgency and availability. Screens patients for appropriate information and provides patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment. Observes, records and reports patient's physical and psychosocial condition, reactions to medication and treatments to physician. Responds to and triages phone calls. Calls in orders appropriately as ordered by physician. Instructs patient, as ordered by the physician, regarding treatment and/or medication. Monitors and distributes medication including samples and controlled substances. Traverses patients and prepares for physician exams and procedures. Assists with exam, procedures and treatments as necessary. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. Administers prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.

Knowledge of clinical laboratory equipment and procedures, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, strong communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
