Municipal Safety Officer

Duties

• Provide general armed security in the Guy C. Larcom Building
• Prevent unauthorized access to facilities
• Respond to emergency situations or situations where individuals may exhibit threatening behaviors, using appropriate de-escalation techniques
• Make periodic rounds of the facility to monitor for security threats and, if any, report them immediately
• Direct customers to the proper locations
• Absorb guest services staff as needed
• Investigate security concerns and threats
• Report any unusual activity to management immediately
• Document incidents and submit daily reports
• Interact with City staff to understand security concerns
• Monitor security systems (cameras, duress systems) throughout the day for potential security threats or other issues
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 21 years of age at the time of hire
• Associate's Degree or equivalent college credits (60) is required at the time of hire
• The City of Ann Arbor, at its discretion, may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience
• At least 3 years of prior law enforcement experience
• Must be MCOLES certified/certifiable at the time of hire (which includes, among other things, possessing a valid drivers’ license)

Physical Requirements

• Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
• Use of self-defense techniques
• Move and lift up to 20 lbs., such as mail, files, and supplies
