Duties
- Provide general armed security in the Guy C. Larcom Building
- Prevent unauthorized access to facilities
- Respond to emergency situations or situations where individuals may exhibit threatening behaviors, using appropriate de-escalation techniques
- Make periodic rounds of the facility to monitor for security threats and, if any, report them immediately
- Direct customers to the proper locations
- Absorb guest services staff as needed
- Investigate security concerns and threats
- Report any unusual activity to management immediately
- Document incidents and submit daily reports
- Interact with City staff to understand security concerns
- Monitor security systems (cameras, duress systems) throughout the day for potential security threats or other issues
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 21 years of age at the time of hire
- Associate's Degree or equivalent college credits (60) is required at the time of hire
- The City of Ann Arbor, at its discretion, may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience
- At least 3 years of prior law enforcement experience
- Must be MCOLES certified/certifiable at the time of hire (which includes, among other things, possessing a valid drivers’ license)
Physical Requirements
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
- Use of self-defense techniques
- Move and lift up to 20 lbs., such as mail, files, and supplies
