Multilingual Learners | Interpreter/Translator - Temporary as needed

Essential Functions

• Provide interpretation and translation services to facilitate communications among students, faculty, staff, parents, and others.
• Utilize appropriate register of the language and intent of the speaker.
• Serve as a liaison between language minority families FWCS schools and personnel.
• Interpret for meetings, conferences, telephone calls, counseling functions, field trips, assemblies, and various other events and activities.
• Aid families with enrolling and completing required forms and applications.
• Translate written communications between FWCS personnel, schools, outside agencies, and limited or non-English speaking families.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to speak and hear.
• Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions.
• Frequently exposed to physical demands including sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
• Requires dexterity of hands and fingers.
• Frequent lifting, carrying, and pushing of up to 25 pounds, particularly in the context of assisting students in wheelchairs.

Qualifications

• Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma.
• Knowledge of general aspects, methods, processes, principles, practices, procedures, and terminology used in assigned field.
• Proficiency in English and at least one other language.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• College degree training in the field of translation and interpreting.
• Recognized certification in translation and/or interpreting.
• Two years experience in translation and/or interpreting.
• Experience working with students or families in a social services or educational environment.
