About the Role
The primary purpose of this position is providing effective oral interpretation services in languages other than English. Bellevue School District is committed to improving meaningful, two-way communication and promoting access to District programs, services, and activities for students and parents/guardians who require communication in a language other than English. Responsibilities
- Interpreting using specialized vocabulary
- Maintains confidentiality as legally required, with a firm understanding of attorney/client relationships
- Maintains professionalism and neutrality, providing accurate interpretation while focusing solely on the information being conveyed
- May be required to work extended hours or respond to deadlines with short turnaround time
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Reports directly to the Language Access Coordinator (Welcome Center Department).
Requirements
- Bilingual in English and at least one other language
- Extensive vocabulary in both languages
- Ability to interpret messages completely and accurately without interjecting personal opinions or engaging in side conversations
- Ability to convey meaning rather than word-for-word translations, using correct grammar and vocabulary
- Ability to perform duties in accordance with Board policies, district, and legal requirements
- Strong attention to detail, proofreading, and organizational skills
- Maintains integrity and confidentiality of information obtained
- Effective customer service skills and multicultural sensitivity
- Flexible schedule; able to accommodate interpretation assignments between 7:30 am and 8 pm
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience providing interpretation support
- Previous experience working with children and/or adults in a learning environment

Physical Requirements
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently
- May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises
Conditions of Employment
- Temporary, hourly on-demand/as-needed position with no benefits

- Verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States must be completed

Pay
Hourly rate for interpretation: $35.00 per hour
