About the Role

The MSL/Senior MSL is a field-based scientific expert that strategically supports the scientific and business objectives of Hematology/Oncology across the product life cycle. MSLs are the primary communicators of AbbVie science within a specific geography to healthcare professionals. They serve as the field scientific experts on disease states and treatment options, combining strong business acumen, clinical expertise, and market awareness. This role acts as a conduit of information to a cross-functional customer base internally within AbbVie. Based on therapeutic needs and product life cycles, responsibilities may include clinical development and pipeline support.

Territory includes: Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, and Alaska.

Responsibilities

  • Execute High Impact Territory Initiatives:
    • Develop, execute, and maintain high-impact territory plans, including HCP and Investigator engagement plans aligned with Hematology/Oncology medical and scientific objectives.
    • Use data and analytics to identify and maximize opportunities within the territory.
    • Identify, gain access to, and develop professional, customer-centric relationships with external experts (EEs) in therapeutic areas within the assigned geography.
    • Deliver on territory plan objectives, meet project deadlines, and achieve annual functional goals.
    • Generate and document meaningful data point observations (DPOs).
    • Practice core capabilities in segmentation, DPOs, and optimal resource utilization.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and Procedures, including accurate and timely documentation of HCP interactions.
  • Scientific Resource to External HCPs and other Stakeholders:
    • Provide education on disease states, therapeutic landscapes, and AbbVie products across the product lifecycle to healthcare providers and researchers.
  • Therapeutic Disease State, Landscape, and Asset Expert:
    • Continually educate self on market issues/trends, product knowledge, and new therapeutic areas relevant to business responsibilities.
    • Create awareness and relationships for AbbVie within the medical community.
    • Support research initiatives across development at the request of R&D, including site evaluation and identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and external collaboration management.
  • Maintain Cross-Functional Field Partnerships:
    • Create, maintain, and collaborate in relationships with cross-functional teams, including in-field commercial teams, site management, monitoring and clinical research associates, Therapeutic Area teams, HEOR, and Medical Outcome Science Liaisons.
    • Work with in-field commercial teams to develop and execute Account plans supporting shared business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred in a relevant scientific discipline. Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline. Significant clinical and/or industry experience in a relevant therapeutic area may be accepted in lieu of education requirements.
  • Greater than or equal to 2 years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry-related experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Problem-solving and analytic skills to identify and translate specific territory and corporate needs into actionable objectives.
  • Exhibits leadership attributes aligning with company-wide initiatives such as: All for One AbbVie, Clear and Courageous, Make Possibilities Real, Agile and Accountable, and Decide Smart and Sure.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply foundational skills in Scientific Storytelling, Identifying Mobilizers, Powerful Questions, and Active Listening.
  • Must meet health care industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements, which may include background checks, drug screens, and proof of immunization/vaccination for various diseases.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 75% of the time and live in or be willing to relocate to the assigned territory.

Job grade, level, and title will be determined by the selected candidate’s credentials, education, and experience.
