About the Role

This announcement is for 2 Special Teacher-Elementary Education positions at the MN State Academy for the Deaf. This is a ten-month per year position following the school calendar, including 3 weeks in July for the summer school program. Under general supervision, you will contribute to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs to deaf/hard of hearing or deaf/blind students. You will provide educational instruction and use a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.

Positions at MN State Academy for the Deaf require American Sign Language (ASL) skills. Candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver academic instructional programs for deaf/hard of hearing or deaf/blind students
  • Provide educational instruction using a variety of techniques
  • Encourage and support appropriate student behaviors
  • Write basic reports, use arithmetic, and read and interpret charts and graphs
  • Maintain records and documentation, including understanding written policies, procedures, and education plans

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) Minnesota Teacher license or have the ability to obtain one prior to the start date
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Ability to read and write English sufficient for understanding policies, procedures, and education plans
  • Knowledge of deaf/hard of hearing and deaf/blind students and educational practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of curriculum, language acquisition, and educational best practices related to deaf/hard of hearing and/or deaf/blind students
  • Experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students
  • Demonstration of advanced sign skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance)
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday

Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months.

Pay

$30.48 - $55.14 / hourly

Schedule

  • Day Shift: Monday - Friday (7:30am - 4pm)
  • Ten-month school calendar with 3 weeks in July for summer school program
