As a Middle School Instructional Aide, you will assist in the general supervision and management of students, allowing teachers more time to focus on educational needs. The role requires alignment with the school's educational philosophy.

Responsibilities

• Assists in implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher.
• Plans and prepares the learning environment, sets up interest centers, and prepares materials and supplies for daily activities.
• Works individually or in small groups with students to review classroom instruction, listens to reading groups, or assists with answering questions.
• Supervises outside playground activities and helps with general housekeeping tasks.
• Assists the teacher in any other appropriate ways and performs clerical tasks.
• Treats all children with dignity and respect.
• Attends staff meetings, training programs, and conferences, including in-service training as required.
• Operates and cares for instructional equipment used in the classroom.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or immediate supervisor.

Student Management

• Assists with supervision of students outside the classroom, such as during field trips, play periods, lunchroom activities, and dismissal.
• Supervises the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.

School/Community Relations

• Maintains confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
• Handles sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Cooperates and shares professionally with other staff members.
• Promotes high academic achievement for all children and a greater focus on teaching and learning.
• Encourages flexibility to stimulate local initiatives while maintaining responsibility for student performance.
• Promotes improved linkages among schools, parents, and communities.

Requirements

• High School degree, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Speak, read, and write English fluently.
• Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
• Experience working with children, preferably children with disabilities.
• Commitment to becoming professionally prepared to supervise young children.
• Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS), and email communications.

Work Environment

• Usual school working conditions, which may be noisy during high student traffic.

Physical Demands

• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
• Somewhat stressful due to frequent student activity.
