As a Middle School Instructional Aide, you will assist in the general supervision and management of students, allowing teachers to focus more on educational needs. You must align with the school's educational philosophy and values.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing the daily program under the teacher's direction.
  • Plan and prepare the learning environment, set up interest centers, and prepare materials and supplies for daily student activities.
  • Work individually or in small groups with students to reinforce classroom instruction, assist with reading groups, or help answer questions.
  • Supervise outside playground activities and assist with general housekeeping tasks.
  • Support the teacher in any appropriate way, including performing clerical tasks.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect.
  • Attend staff meetings, training programs, and conferences, including in-service training as required.
  • Operate and care for instructional equipment used in the classroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or immediate supervisor.

Student Management

  • Assist with student supervision outside the classroom, such as during field trips, play periods, lunchroom activities, and dismissal.
  • Supervise the classroom when the teacher is absent.

School/Community Relations

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information, documents, and communications with discretion.
  • Cooperate and share professionally with other staff members.
  • Promote high academic achievement for all students and a greater focus on teaching and learning.
  • Encourage flexibility to stimulate local initiatives while maintaining responsibility for student performance.
  • Strengthen linkages among schools, parents, and communities.

Requirements

  • High School degree, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background checks.
  • Experience working with children, preferably children with disabilities.
  • Commitment to becoming professionally prepared to supervise young children.
  • Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, the community, and administrative staff.

  • Ability to consistently attend work on time, follow instructions, and respond to management direction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS), and email communications.
  • Commitment to improving and promoting quality, accuracy, and thoroughness.
  • Strives to implement best practices and positive character education consistently.

Work Environment

  • Usual school working conditions, which may be noisy during high student traffic.

Physical Demands

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • Somewhat stressful due to frequent student activity.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
