Job Description

The MRI Technologist at Northwestern Medicine plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and producing high-quality diagnostic images. This position requires adherence to ethical standards, compliance with regulatory requirements, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
  • Produces diagnostic-quality MRI images using approved protocols and professional standards.
  • Applies professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
  • Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
  • Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).
  • Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.
  • Captures accurate and timely documentation in medical records and image archive systems, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability, and charging accuracy.
  • Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
  • Enforces controlled access and safe practices within the MRI environment.
  • Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery.
  • Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, and growth.
  • Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the MRI process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
  • Performs MRI safety screening, including implant and foreign body evaluation, and ensures appropriate clearance prior to exposure to the magnetic field.
  • Enforces controlled access and safe practices within the MRI environment.
  • Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening, IV access when required, monitoring, and response to adverse events.
  • Safely operates MRI equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.
  • Captures accurate and timely documentation in EPIC and Visage, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability, and charging accuracy.
  • Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, certifications, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or American Registry of MRI Technologist (ARMRIT)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Internal employees and rehires who left Northwestern Medicine within 1 year are not eligible for the sign on bonus. Exception: New graduate internal employees seeking their first licensed clinical position at NM may be eligible depending upon the job family.
