Schedule
7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On-call shifts required.
Responsibilities
- Operates and maintains a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner to obtain diagnostic images for physicians.
- Verifies written requests for MRI procedures and instructs patients regarding the process.
- Prepares, positions, and manipulates patients to ensure appropriate placement for imaging.
- Selects appropriate imaging techniques and calibrates console and peripheral hardware as required.
- Obtains images, produces film records, and transfers images to workstations and storage media.
- Performs contrast injections satisfactorily.
- Maintains current knowledge of MRI environmental, patient, and visitor safety as defined by hospital policy, ACR, and The Joint Commission.
- Charges procedures in RMS accurately and immediately after completion.
- Sends images to PACS and verifies availability for interpretation in a timely manner.
- Enters and monitors patient data, maintaining accurate study documentation.
- Performs quality assurance on magnetic resonance equipment and procedures.
- Maintains MRI lab supplies.
- Provides instruction and guidance in MRI procedures to staff in training as assigned.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in caring for patients across all age groups, from newborns to geriatric patients.
- Ensures adherence to established departmental policies, objectives, QA programs, and safety standards.
- Performs additional duties as assigned, including obtaining and documenting verbal and telephone orders per facility policy (for ARRT-licensed staff).
- Rotates to other imaging departments as needed; participates in holiday and on-call rotation requirements.
Requirements
- Successful completion of a radiological program or equivalent military training.
- Two (2) years of experience in diagnostic radiology in a healthcare facility.
- One (1) year of experience as an MRI Technologist preferred.
Qualifications
- ARRT registered.
- BLS certification (or obtained within 90 days of employment).
- Current South Carolina license issued by the SC Radiation Quality Standards Association.
