About the Role

The MRI Manager is responsible for the daily operation of the MRI Department. The Manager coordinates patient scheduling and daily work assignments, serves as a resource for MRI Technologists, suggests changes in procedures, policies, and quality improvement, and coordinates training and development. The Manager identifies cost savings, ensures technical operations stay within budget, and demonstrates mastery of all Clinical Level Imaging competencies. The role includes assisting with interviews, providing input for annual performance appraisals, managing schedules, and coordinating holiday and call coverage. The Manager also monitors equipment, supplies, and accreditation (ACR) for both magnets.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and triages procedures based on priority level and skills needed.
  • Recognizes when other staff members need assistance or resources.
  • Provides expertise in decision-making, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and section operations.
  • Acts as the point of contact and resource for providers, staff, patients, and their families.
  • Updates imaging guidelines and disseminates protocol changes to staff.
  • Develops and maintains schedules.
  • Monitors equipment and coordinates repairs; monitors supplies and equipment inventories.
  • Coordinates and participates in the training of new employees and staff.
  • Contributes to decision-making for hiring and performance evaluation of Imaging employees.
  • Maintains the quality assurance program for the section.
  • Trains staff members on new equipment and exams.
  • Develops and expands staff members' imaging skills.
  • Develops protocols and implements quality performance standards.
  • Researches and implements new imaging techniques.
  • Reviews and develops patient education material.
  • Prioritizes tasks and duties of all other staff in the section.
  • Assists with collection and data analysis.
  • Implements techniques to minimize the occurrence of artifacts and repeats.
  • Assists with special projects and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Performs patient assessment and screening within the scope of practice.
  • Checks the status of imaging equipment to ensure proper operating condition.
  • Performs testing to ensure proper calibration and optimal performance of equipment.
  • Explains all studies to patients prior to exams in a caring manner and provides resources about the MRI exam.
  • Sets up trays, performs time-out, and prepares contrasts.
  • Accurately critiques images to determine diagnostic quality and adjusts factors if an image needs to be repeated.
  • Starts and maintains intravenous (IV) access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.

Requirements

  • Maintains licensure, certifications, and ongoing CEUs for professional development on a timely basis.
  • Graduate of a School of Radiology Technology.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience; four (4) years preferred.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Certification by appropriate body (ARRT) and valid Connecticut State license.
  • MRI Certification.
