Responsibilities
- Operates and performs operator maintenance on a 42 passenger motor coach that exceeds 32,000 lbs gross vehicle weight.
- Transports patients and domestic members to all outings requiring the use of a motor coach, including trips to Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD, as well as other locations as required by the Recreation department.
- Loads and unloads wheelchair passengers using an electric or manual wheelchair lift.
- Affords assistance to passengers with special needs on and off the motor coach.
- Operates buses, sedans, SUVs, ambulances, passenger vans, and pickup trucks.
- Transports sick, injured, or convalescent patients and is responsible for their comfort and safe conduct to destination.
- Selects the safest, most direct, and legally allowed route to be followed and identifies alternative routes which may be used if emergency situations arise.
- Operates motor coach vehicle on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades.
- Performs messenger tasks and parcel pickup and may carry funds for purchase of items or drugs.
- Keeps the vehicle clean inside and out and checks and tops fuel levels prior to departures and upon returning.
- Performs general labor duties as directed by the Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor.
