Motor Pool Vehicle Operator I **INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY**

About the role

Drives and operates vehicles and equipment that require a Class A CDL, including tractor-trailer combinations with various semi-trailers to transport materials, merchandise, and equipment between locations. Additional duties include driving buses (up to 45 passengers), aircraft tow tractors, farm tractors, forklifts, pickup trucks, sedans, cargo and passenger vans, and tow trucks/recovery vehicles. Operates water trucks or trailers for lift site preparation as needed. Loads and unloads trucks with or without helpers and secures loads for transport. Performs minor operator-level repairs and maintains equipment in good order.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily and weekly Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), inspecting vehicles for deficiencies, checking fluid levels, and maintaining logs to ensure mission readiness.
• Drives military and commercial vehicles to transport troops and equipment in support of YTC and Army Garrison operations.
• Performs vehicle recoveries, including towing disabled vehicles.
• Coordinates daily operations, prepares and submits reports and trip tickets.
• Serves as a liaison with the GSA Service Center, coordinating vehicle transfers to offsite vendors for warranty and repairs.
• Works directly with Heavy Equipment Operators.
• Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission.

Requirements

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without special restrictions and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• Must have HAZMAT, Tanker, and Passenger endorsements.
• Minimum of one (1) year continuous driving experience with heavy trucks (e.g., dump trucks or tractor-trailers), heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers or excavators), and/or tactical military vehicles (e.g., armored personnel carriers).
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, DOT physical, and periodic retests.
• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks.
• Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions, including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Must meet physical requirements for operations outlined in the Maintenance Division SOPs.
• Must be capable of climbing up and into large vehicles up to 10 feet high.
• Must be able to lift 75 lbs. unassisted.
• Must be capable of kneeling, bending, and standing while performing rigging duties.
• Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English.
• Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude.
• Must be willing to cross-train in other areas.
• Must use “down-time” effectively to benefit test, self, and company.
• Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, and reliability.
• Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and not hold multiple citizenships.
• Must possess a valid driver's license without special restrictions.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.

Skills

• Basic knowledge and understanding of equipment-operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations, demonstrated through training and experience.
• Ability to conduct basic operator-level maintenance, such as checking tire pressure, inspecting braking systems, and servicing vehicle lights.
• Ability to identify, correct, or report all vehicle deficiencies to the motor pool dispatcher or supervisor.
• Capability to maintain accurate records of driver mileage, trip tickets, and inspection sheets.

Pay

$25.81 per hour.

Additional desirable qualifications

• Current National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) CCO Rigger and Signalperson certification.
