Mother/Baby PCA II

About the Role

This is a 32-hour night shift position on the mother-baby unit, working four 8-hour night shifts. The schedule includes every other weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) and every other holiday. Under the direction of a registered/licensed nurse (RN), this role is part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, assisting in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient care-related duties and clinical functions, including but not limited to: vital signs, EKGs, bathing, transferring and assisting with ambulation, feeding, and other sanitary needs of patients.
• Assist RNs and physicians with exams and treatments as required.
• Ensure patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately based on patient needs and volumes.
• Perform specimen collection and document all relevant information.
• Retrieve, set up, clean, and report malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
• Document patient information such as height, weight, fluid/food intake, output (urine, stool, vomit, drainage), and blood glucose results.
• Assist patients with food tray setup and eating if necessary.
• Communicate effectively and timely with nursing staff regarding patient care and condition.
• Receive and direct medical staff, personnel, patients, and visitors.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (preferred).
• Nursing Assistant (LNA - New Hampshire) certification (preferred).
• 1-2 years of healthcare experience (required).
• Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
• Demonstrated typing skills and computer experience.
• Good interpersonal, organizational, and oral/written communication skills.
• Ability to lift and transport patients safely using appropriate techniques per Safe Patient Handling Guidelines.
• Ability to multitask and handle stress or crisis situations effectively.

Additional Details

This is an onsite position located at 2014 Washington Street, Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Scheduled weekly hours are 32, with a night shift schedule.

Pay

Pay range: $23.00 - $25.28 per hour (Grade 3).
